Recognized Student Groups

Student clubs or groups are formally referred to as “recognized student groups” at the University of Toronto and have many benefits. Recognized student groups are voluntary organizations that have applied and successfully gained recognition from the U of T Office of Student Life. Student groups include cultural groups, advocacy, social justice, hobby, arts and much more.

How to Order University-Branded Merchandise

Step 1: Create your artwork

Using the guidelines and best practices listed below, your inspiration to create a design that represents your student group is endless.

Step 2: Select a licensed vendor

Happy with your design? Choose a licensed vendor to make your merchandise come to life.

Step 3: TML Approval

Your selected vendor should submit your final design into the Direct Licensing Hub (DLH) to be approved by the Trademark Licensing (TML) team and start production.

Step 4: Enjoy your merchandise!

Confirm delivery details and payment with your vendor. Wear it. Share it. Show your U of T SPIRIT!! #UofTTML

Best Practices

The following rules apply to all recognized student groups looking to create merchandise:

  • All branded merchandise and apparel must be ordered through an approved licensed vendor.
  • Recognized student groups are granted permission to use University of Toronto or U of T, UTSC, UTM in text only.
  • The student group must have its name, acronym, class of _ , 2T_, student design or any other marker to indicate it is a distinct student piece.
  • Create a design that does not replicate or resemble any official university mark or signature.
  • Student groups are encouraged to strengthen their connection to the university by using the official colours of navy blue (PMS 655) and white, grey or black.

Please avoid the following:

  • Do not copy well-known trademarks to avoid any legal repercussions from external organizations.
  • Individual profits from the sale of recognized student group branded merchandise are not permitted.

  • Design #1: Water Bottle – APPROVED

    Student Group: UofTHacks Student Organization
     
    Reasons for approval:
    • Successfully registered and is on the U of T Student Organization Portal
    • Addition of their recognized student group name - UofTHacks with the use of a group created graphic design.
    • Recognized group status allows use of the U of T letter mark.
    • Original design and use of a different font that is not used by any existing University of Toronto signature.
